Goodbye 2024: Reflections for a New Year
Well, let me tell you about the last weekend of the year. It’s that magical time when folks start reflecting on the past twelve months, and whether they admit it or not, they’re thinking about all the things they didn’t get done. You know, those New Year’s resolutions that always seem to roll around like a stubborn old mule. Like promising to lose weight, quit smoking, or finally read that stack of books gathering dust.
You can feel the excitement in the air, mixed with a bit of melancholy. People are rushing around, trying to squeeze in one last trip to the store, stocking up on snacks for the big New Year’s Eve party. It’s a time when everyone puts on their best smile, even if they’re secretly dreading the thought of the family gathering that’s just around the corner. You know what I mean? The one where Aunt Edna corners you with her casserole and a thousand questions about your love life.
And then there’s the weather. It’s that weird in between time when it’s neither here nor there. One minute it’s chilly enough to freeze the whiskers off a cat, and the next, the sun peeks out, making you think maybe spring is just around the corner. You can’t help but remember all those good times spent outdoors, and suddenly you’re longing for summer barbecues and lazy afternoons on the porch.
As the clock ticks closer to midnight on New Year’s Eve, excitement builds. People gather, toasting with plastic cups filled with whatever bubbly they could find. And as the countdown begins, you realize it’s not just about celebrating the new year. It’s about the hope that comes with it. Hope for new beginnings, for second chances, and for the possibility that maybe this year will be the one where everything falls into place.
So, as you raise your glass and shout “Happy New Year!” amidst the confetti and laughter, remember that every ending is just a new beginning in disguise. And no matter how crazy the past year has been, there’s always a chance to make the next one a little brighter. Cheers to that!
NO NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS. I JUST WANT TO WALK CLOSELY WITH MY GOD & SAVIOR.
